Springfield's Favorite Family Arrives in Rocket League: But It's Not the Car Fans Are Dreaming Of

We already knew that the iconic animated series was teaming up with Epic Games' battle royale, but this isn't the sole place where enthusiasts can immerse themselves in the world of Springfield. The long-running series is coming over to Rocket League, introducing an in-game car skin that will also be compatible in Fortnite. However, whether players will truly desire to equip it is a different matter, as there's only one Simpsons vehicle everyone is eager to drive, and this new offering isn't that one.

What Fans Really Want

While many gamers would undoubtedly love to face off behind the wheel of Homer's custom creation—the notoriously impractical automobile Homer designed personally in the classic installment "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?"—regrettably, that isn't what players are receiving. We aren't even receiving the massive SUV, the heavy-duty truck showcased in season 10. Instead, fans are getting the Simpsons' standard beat-up sedan, which they've been driving since 1989. Though this specific vehicle has accumulated plenty of miles, it stands as an iconic symbol of the show. And for players who pay attention to Rocket League car hitboxes, the Simpson family car uses the identical collision model as the Dominus.

More Than Just a Car

But that's not the sole customization item from the show arriving in the game. The event will additionally feature a set of challenges to earn additional rewards, all of which are Simpsons-themed. According to a press release, the challenges will require participants to "achieve a certain number of centers and clears as there are the show's seasons, gather boost canisters as if your navigation is set to The Simpsons’ house, and drive a distance worthy of acquiring the ideal pastries!"

While the full lineup of challenge rewards isn't yet disclosed, here is what has been confirmed up to this point:

  • Blinky topper
  • Homer's Hedges player banner
  • Garbage-themed wheels
  • 20,000 experience points for each challenge

If the key art is any indication, it seems fans will also get wheels with a TV showing the show's title sequence, Kang and Kodos topper, a frosted doughnut trail, and boost effects inspired by smoldering rubber and Krusty's famous restaurant.

Event Timing and Fortnite Connection

The Rocket League collaboration coincides with the major Simpsons invasion of Fortnite's island, which brings a completely new playable area of Springfield, in addition to a month-long seasonal progression system. This special Rocket League and Simpsons celebration begins on Saturday, Nov. 1 and concludes on November 17th.
